What Lies Beneath

One last shot taken in September. I don't know much about the geology of the area other than it was over-ridden with glaciers several times and that the hills surrounding the area are primarily either moraines or drumlins. I don't remember which. Either way this little pic is not of a hill but of the layers of soil deposits on the land beneath the cottage and I grabbed a snapshot for future reference.

Well
I''d suggest wikipedia
Otherwise
Moraines, terminal or lateral.
Terminial: end of glacier - mostly down in Ohio, Indiana etc, minor one in Kasson Township, source for the gravel pits.
Lateral, along sides or along streams/rivers of meltwater.

Drumlins, teardrop shaped formations along the lines of the glaciation. More a bit further north, end up being prime orchard locations, hills with primary North South Axis, some work well for vineyards as well. Good air drainage.

So likely you are showing mix of morain materials, changes in mix likely changes in speed of melt.
